It was the early 80’s. I was four years old, and wondering about life. How does one know what path to follow?
I asked my mom if she had wanted to marry my daddy when she was my age. She said she hadn’t known my father then. Then I inquired if she had wanted to live on a farm when she grew up. She said she had always assumed she would.
After that, I fell to contemplating my life, and what I wanted.
One thing was for sure: I didn’t want to marry the first guy I dated. The women I knew who had done that didn’t seem to appreciate the love they were given. I figured it was because they had never had their hearts broken.
The rest of life’s big questions were still a mystery to me. Where was I to live? How many children to have? What about college and career?
I didn’t know enough about life to make these decisions, so I asked God. My logic was that He knows everything, and that He answers prayer.
God quickly responded to my prayer: When I grew up, I was going to attend Frontier School of the Bible (the college where my parents had met), marry my second boyfriend, have five kids, and live in Montana (which meant mountains to me…I was 8 or 9 before I realized there was a difference). I’m not sure which God meant.
My career would be that of wife and mother.
2008:
I am a wife and mother, living in the mountains, raising five boys. My second boyfriend became my husband the day after we graduated from Frontier School of the Bible.
I am not in Montana, and we don’t own the ranch I supposed I would, but then, I never dreamed that all five of my children would be boys. All the same, I am living my dream, day by day.
